Yep. He presented his opinion as fact. As a media leader, he should know better but, honestly, these guys have been getting away with it forever so it makes sense he thought he could do so now. The problem is, although he's allowed to say what he wants, the network has to read the room as far as national sentiment is concerned. They can fire him for misrepresenting the truth. [/quote]

Comics tell jokes. In order to do that, they need to exaggerate and twist reality.

And no, Kimmel did not lie. He made an assumption that turned out to be only half-true. That is not a fireable offense.

I wouldn't even say he made an assumption.  He stated a fact. They ARE trying to frame the shooter as anything other than conservative, starting with ridiculous trans symbol on the bullet theory.  Whether the shooter is MAGA/liberal/libertarian is immaterial. He was critiquing the adminisration's lack of objectivity.  That level of nuance seems to go over the vast majority of people's heads.
