I came to DC 35 years ago. I've never felt unsafe, but it was terrible back in 1991. I still live in DC (NE) and never feel unsafe. I also don't do stupid things like walk down the street with my face in my phone.[/quote]

+1. I've lived here 25 years. DC is hardly perfect; the government could do a much better  job prosecuting crime.

But a "crime emergency" that requires the National Guard? Ha! That's ridiculous.

I've lived in other major cities, and DC is fine.

PP who has lived here 78 years, of course you know people who've been victims of crime. You've had a lot of years to collect the data.  I can tell you some crazy stories from the affluent bedroom suburb I grew up in because I've got several decades of knowledge about it.
