I’ve traveled to over 40 countries and the max I’ve spent on a trip was 4k in Italy for 2 people, 10 days. Net worth 2.5 million - compared to many posts, I guess we really budget.
How do you do 10 days in Italy when the airfare is nearly 1K each? Was this 1999?
2019 - Tickets under 1k (dozens of good flights to Milan ~500-600 in Sept and Oct right now. Hotels around $100 a night and enough money for food, train tickets. Easy to travel on a budget if you are fine not staying in 4-5 star hotels or flying business/1st class.
Also key tips not having kids in schools. One of the big expenses I did not realize with kids is that your vacation costs are double or triple what they willed otherwise be, because the costs go up so much during school breaks. We went to Italy for spring break last year and there was no way we were finding direct flights for 500 a piece! Pre pandemic flights might have been cheaper though.
However, even off times, you are not finding decent hotels for under $100/night in most places. Europe is expensive and rarely are flights less than $1K for economy.
