This is absolutely typical.[/quote] According to the NIH about 20% of older adults (ages 50 plus) have Peripheral edema, which is the symptom, swelling in the lower extremities. The NIH did a study in 2016 and found it more prevalent in older age, females, non-white races, people with low wealth, obese, hypertensive, diabetes, pain, low activities. This study was done every four years since 2000 and results have been consistent. Causes of this swelling include venous deficiencies, heart failure, kidney or liver disease and certain medications.
