If the military shows up to a domestic protest then the military is the aggressor. If you show up with weapons and tactical gear to suppress the people then expect to have rocks thrown at you.

No one would know the difference between a riot geared CHiP and a military member.

They have the same body armor, weapons etc.

People would really only notice an M1A1 tank just running over dozens or people or an Apache/Cobra gun ship strafing hundreds at a time. Which both platforms do, and do it very well.  But they are not, just some marines backing up federal LEO because the state won’t.[/quote]

Authoritarians across the globe don’t use tanks to run over dozens of people. Even communist China doesn’t do that. They shoot into protest crowds and claim that they were just doing their job. [/quote]
