Ugh, store bought cakes are so bad and it's so easy to make one yourself from scratch. You can do it in the time it takes to pick one up from the store. Try it--you won't go back.
Agree. I made my DH a chocolate cake from scratch for his birthday. It was so much better than anything from a mix and so much better than anything from a grocery store. It was better than cakes from bakeries as well.
Homemade cakes are great for close family. If it’s someone I don’t know very well and they made a homemade cake-i’m simply not eating it. When you are supplying a cake for an event it makes everyone more comfortable to have a store made/bakery made cake. Also not particularly convenient to make a homemade cake for 30 or more people.
If you are scared to eat cake, your comfort is low on my list of priorities
Definitely not scared to eat cake. Scared about how little some people care about food safety like washing their hands, using non expired ingredients and having a clean prep area.
+100 And not petting your dog while you are cooking or dog/cat hair on the counters. Cats roaming the counters. Picking your teeth, etc. Some people are groos and have not concept of hygiene or washing their hands. YUCK!!!
This is a fearful mentality. Good thing you never eat out. Or get takeaway food. Or prepared food anywhere. Or travel. Or be with people in general. Back on topic. A straightforward box cake is fine. I've had my share of stodgy homemade cakes too.
last time I checked I have never seen a cat in the wegmans bakery. But of course not everyone takes safety 100%. But the bakeries in grocery stores (the good ones) are out in the open and you can see the workers working. They are wearing gloves and at least look like they are being safe. Unlike aunt claudia who uses baking soda that expired in 1999 and drops all the ingredients on the floor while also licking the spoon as she bakes.
You are fearful. Very fearful. But do what you want to do.
