Ugh, Jawando. He was on Zoom for a neighborhood meeting regarding the big mental health and substance abuse for-profit treatment center opening Nextdoor to an elementary school in the Sherwood pyramid. Said nothing. He was there to back up the electeds. I agree that he and Glass should not have a captive audience of voters. Hopefully he won’t make it about him or his election. Doesn’t he have kids in private school? (Or going to private HS in the fall?)
And didn't Jawando sue MCPS several years ago? I hope he talks about how great public education is in Montgomery County!
He touted his own mcps education but apparently he’s sending one of his kids to private high school to play sports (from his social media).
His child is attending his alma mater. You can read or listen to his autobiography. He shared about his experience in MCPS and St John’s.
+1 lots of ignorant people hating on someone they know nothing about.
? Nobody is hating on him. Anyone can google him. The point is that an elected official running for higher office that funds our public school system is sending his kid to a private high school. It’s irrelevant that the school is his alma mater. The point is that this move makes a statement. PS - His speech at Sherwood’s graduation yesterday was lackluster (at best).
One of his kids is in private school. You don’t know their circumstances and many elected officials send their kids to private schools. There's no law against that. DP
He just said last March that he has 4 kids in “this school system.” And I thought perhaps his oldest is the one that is going to SJC for sports next year? Anyway, his bio doesn’t mention his private school education—and I’m sure that’s intentional (a strategic move to only tout his mcps education…even if it didn’t include HS). He’s entitled to send his kids to private school, but it speaks volumes when someone on the county council (with aspirations to be the CE) is bailing on mcps for private school. Sports isn’t a legit excuse. And candidly, neither is a learning disability. After all, shouldn’t mcps be equipped to serve all students well? It supposedly used to. Remember when it had national ranking status? So, what’s changed? We pay high taxes to support a bloated education system. Anyway, it should matter when an elected official opts for private school for high school—particularly since decisions made by the county council for the last 20 years have dramatically impacted our schools and overall community.
I am not sure if you’re slow or being purposely deceitful. Again, he is not bailing on MCPS. One of his kids with special needs is in private schools, the rest are in MCPS. My goodness!
