Could someone please answer OP's veiled question "now that international students may not attend Harvard, will Larla get off the waitlist?"
No one knows the answer just yet. We do not know whether Harvard incoming undergrads will get their visas. There are only about 250, so even if they were to all be deferred until next year, at most, Harvard would probably take three hundred off its waitlist, considering its high yield, which is not going to move the needle much spread out across other schools' waitlists. Seems likely that Harvard will make a deal with the administration soon enough for visa processing, soon being within a week.
Except those 300+ will likely make the waitlist move further at school’s a tier down. Like Duke, Penn, Northwestern, JHU, UChicago, Cornell, Dartmouth, Brown. So all of those schools will be moving to weightless throughout the summer. It’s just a trickle down effect. To go from admitting 20 from your regular waitlist to now admitting 10-15 times that many does absolutely make a difference to the rest of the admissions landscape when you sit at the top.
Well that's a question of how many tiers there are. I don't think it trickles down more than 4 or 5 tiers before you get to the point where nobody really cares about the waitlist anymore. So maybe it affects 1000 to 1500 students
