Most applied private schools in the US are NYU, Northeastern, Boston Univ, USC. They are all in cities. Location helped the popularity of these schools. [/quote]

Those are private schools.  There are many publics that are far more popular with students - and that aren't in urban locations.

UC Davis in the middle of nowhere received 99k apps.  Berkeley received 126k apps...not a huge difference.[/quote]
