Trying so hard to see what you all liked about this. I just hated every bit of it -- and I watched the whole thing in part because of the positive comments here, trying to see if it would grow on me. No one was convincing as longtime friends or spouses. It bummed me out how unattractive they all are and how ugly their clothes and stupid hats were. (That's not something I care about and don't know why it makes me cranky except maybe they screwed around with a movie I loved.) The editing and pacing were horrible. Maybe that's what happens when you stretch a single movie into 8 episodes. This was godawful.
When they shared the backstory it became even more confusing. Only Danny, Kate and Jack are the college friends? Then Jack worked for Nick briefly until he got fired (he's a teacher now). I think I got that right. Anyway, I do not think Kate would be so chummy with her husband's rich boss who fired him's wife? I would think that's a very distant relationship. And why are Nick and Ann related to the college at all. Their kid wanted to go there? Or did one of them actually go to the college. I agree it doesn't make for such a close group as they are trying to be.
I thought Danny, Kate, and Nick were the college friends. Kate met Jack in college and brought him into the group.
