Apples and Oranges my dim little tool. Hillsdale is a LAC and doesn't need research contracts. Just like the NESCAC except for Tufts can just happily cruise along. Federal money is about 2-3% of the budget at top SLACs, they don't need it and while they would miss it it has no bearing on their operations. The OP ed by the Hillsdale president fails in the fact of objective comparison.[/quote]

But when it is pointed out that Hillsdale forsakes federal funds you go into a LAC v Research insti rabbit hole. Now that USAID funding has stopped, the Harvard defense team is clearly scraping the bottom of the barrel.[/quote]
