Our son, a psychology major, has narrowed his acceptances down and is now torn about which of his two finalists, Georgia or Ohio State, he should commit to. Can anyone offer points of differentiation that perhaps we haven't thought of? This can be related to academics, student life , social, housing, dining, the respective locations, study abroad, alumni network, etc. Some notes: - Cost of Attendance is even between the two (after factoring in merit) - We are in Maryland and distance does not seem to be an issue although we realize Columbus is easier to get to. - He visited both for admitted students day, loved them both - Socially, he is interested in Greek Life but not fully adamant about it - he'll take time to learn more. - The warmer climate at Georgia does not seem to be a differentiator, either. Any insights or personal experiences with either school would be appreciated! Thank you!
Your son shouldn't be picking colleges based on their football teams.
Has anybody said he should? OP, ask your son which campus he thinks about more. Which one does he want to visit again? Which one had the more engaging / compelling admitted student event? Which feels right? That’s the school for him.
Since I suck at replying - it's implied by the title. Why else would a student be focused on these 2 schools in particular? The #1 link is top college football and that's fine, but don't beat around the bush.
My daughter is at Ohio State, and not because of football. 60,000 students selected that school. You really think it’s because of football? “The university just enrolled a record-setting first-year class, we have a world-class academic medical center that continues to excel at patient care and life-changing research, and a worldwide network of nearly 620,000 alumni. In addition to the overall rankings, the university continues to be rated among the top 10 in a variety of academic programs. The College of Nursing’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is ranked first among public universities and 4th nationally. In the Fisher College of Business, the undergraduate business program ranked 7th among public universities and 14th nationally. The undergraduate engineering degree program in the College of Engineering was ranked 12th among publics and 20th in the nation, its highest ranking to date.” -https://news.osu.edu/ohio-state-on-the-rise-in-new-ranking-of-public-universities/ No mention of football.
