If your status has been cancelled or your visa is expired or your permission to enter has been revoked, you have two choices: Go home or become an illegal. I have no issue with cancelling benefits for illegal aliens. Do you?
are these people illegal aliens?
No. They are US citizens who immigrated years ago and have legally obtained social security numbers.
Did they enter the US legally?
I really wish DCUM had the feature to pin important info/facts to the top of posts that would roll with each page of the thread. It'd save the same question being asked over and over. If an immigrant is in the US and has a SSN, they are a LEGAL immigrant. Illegal immigrants - those who sneak in - cannot get SSNs issued to them by the SSA. I work for the SSA. I know what I'm talking about. Illegal immigrants CAN get something called an ITIN (individual taxpayer identification number). ITINs look similar to SSNs - their format is 123-45-6789. But they are not the same as a SSN. What is the difference between a SSN and ITIN? -Both allow the individual to pay taxes, HOWEVER, only those with a SSN are allowed to collect from the services they pay into. Meaning that only green card holders or naturalized citizens with SSNs who paid into the Social Security system the required number of years can collect benefits at retirement. Those with ITINs can NEVER collect any of the benefits they paid. They can never collect Social Security when they hit 62/67. ITIN holders annually pay around $30mil in taxes - meaning they pay INTO social security and the other withholding taxes - that they will never get to use. Since the SSN and ITIN formats are the same, I am wondering if what they actually canceled were ITINs. Either way, it's a huge hit to the economy. I would love some clarification from the administration on which numbers were actually cancelled. Cancelling the SSNs of legal immigrants is literally 1 step away from cancelling the SSNs of US-born citizens. And if you don't see that, I'm sorry that you have a smooth brain.
