Agree this sounds like a terrible incident, but also that it involved circumstances that one should try to avoid when on vacation in another country - such as being out too late, getting unnecessarily involved in negative interactions with locals, etc. Our cruise is stopping in Nassaau next week and we had already read the elevated State Dept. advisory which has been the case for a long time. There is nothing about this story that would make us cancel our plans to get off the ship -- not sure if it will be just shopping at the market just off the boat (which is cordoned off with only cruise passengers and cruise and port employees allowed), or heading to one of the local resorts. If the latter, we always try to book with a cruise sponsored excursion which always includes supervision throughout your time off the boat, or we find something super close to the ship. Either way, we stay in well-lit and populated public areas and avoiding anything secluded or off the beaten path. Also, don't forget to leave plenty of time to get back so the ship doesn't leave without you!
