They use a lot of manipulatives: the moveable (cursive) alphabet, prefixes and root words they add on to other words using word or letter tiles, grammar work with movable sentence components (verbs, adjectives, etc). They use short stories with comprehension questions students have to write the answers. Lots of paper and pencil writing[/quote]
