There is so much luck involved in making it in hollywood, and she was plucked from obscurity by Spielberg and launched into these incredible opportunities.... And then this is how she acts. I'm shaking my head more over the fact that she's just dumb and entitled than over anything she has said. You're an actor, be professional, do your work.
So any public figure should not be allowed to have a social media platform—like the rest of us—and should not be allowed to use it as they see fit—like the rest of us?
+1. Celebrities should have the same rights as everyone else. Of course we’re allow to not see their movies if we disagree with them, but the under-25 crowd (who fuels Hollywood) generally doesn’t care what celebrities say on social media.
I like What Ricky Gervais said at the Golden Globes back in 2020 about the hypocrisy of woke stars lecturing the public. She really is not in a position to try to influence anyone regarding world politics and she has a lot to learn. She can also cause harm by promoting propaganda. She has the freedom to do as she pleased and the public can react accordingly. Also companies can chose not to deal with her. That said, sadly the under 25 crowd can be extremely gullible when it comes to Tiktok and listening to woke celebrities so i disagree that they don't care what celebrities say on social media. She has tremendous talent and hopefully she will take some time away at some point to mature.
I was actually planning to post the link to Ricky Gervais's Golden Globes speech b/c it is so evergreen. It's particularly irritating because actors are just one component of an art form that writers, directors, costume designers, make up artists (the list is endless) direct their own talents onto to produce a product the contributes to either the entertainment or education (or both) of the viewer. They are literally conduits for the message and fairy tales in particular are precious vessels for universal human truths that need to be retold from generation to generation. So it's an abuse of their position when actors use the fame they get by virtue of their public-facing role to virtue-signal--and that's the only thing that political messaging in this capacity is regardless of whether you agree with her or not. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgson2Q3nog
