The people laid off are not air traffic controllers.  They are support personnel that clean the facilities, maintain equipment, etc.  Not great if equipment starts breaking, but not an immediate threat to safety.[/quote]

You understand the FAA is already short staffed, right? And in the short time trump has been president, there have been more airline deaths in the US than over the last 20 years combined.  the main problem has nothing to do with technology or anything else other than getting the ATCs and the support within fully employed so managers don't have to run staff on 12 hour days etc.[/quote]
