As someone raised Christian the people pushing me away from the church aren't atheists or people of other faiths, it's so called Christians like Trump. They're like the bog of eternal stench and it's hard to want to be associated with the religion anymore. I was raised in a church that was heavy on biblical scholarship and independent study so I'm aware of how much they've perverted the faith.
I'm curious in what ways they have perverted the faith? The evangelicals I know are following the bible to a "T", which is what makes them so abhorent to me. And of course, by extension, what makes the words in the bible abhorent to me also. I have learned some verses, as they were used against my family in horrifically painful ways to sever previouslly loving relationships, and those words are actually IN the bible. I agree with your opinion about the "bag of eternal stench" though.
This is Jesus said about what would happen in Matthew 10:34. You prove the Bible true: Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. You abhor the Bible because you hate God and love your sin.
Screw you. I hate that people believe the disgusting words in the bible. I don't believe in sin as I don't believe in god or the bible. Thank you for proving MY point lol.
Your unbelief does not make it untrue. You are someone who is offensive to God. I urge you to reconsider and repent (turn from unbelief and away from sin): Matthew 13:41-42 41. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42. And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. You will be gnashing your teeth in anger because God has judged you. “How DARE he!” you hatefully grumble. “Science disproved the existence of God. Sagan and Darwin could not have been wrong…ohhhhhhh” you wail, bemoaning that you believed a lie. You gnash your teeth in anger that this has happened to you.
I am a Christian and it is people like you who are difficult for me to swallow. It is you who present the true challenge to my following my faith. You cloak your preaching in hatred and fire. You use Jesus' name...Jesus' name!...to preach hatred, retribution, discrimination, and violence. I wonder how many people have *truly* converted to follow Jesus because of fear? I'm guessing zero, not in their heads or their hearts. You know what really reaches people? You know what the overriding message of Jesus is for those of us that are mere mortals? Love and mercy. Love and mercy. Love and kindness and mercy. You are here to care for your fellow man in the name of Jesus, not persecute him in the name of Jesus. If you suffer in the name of Jesus, you should not seek revenge, you should turn the other cheek. The truth is that the messages of Jesus are completely in conflict with the messages of American rugged individualism. So many American Christians are trying to rewrite the teachings of Jesus to suit their own narrative. And you end up with the Christian Right and complete disgraces like Trump. I'd rather break bread with an atheist who is kind and compassionate that one of you modern-day Pharisees.
Bravo! I, an atheist, would rather break bread with you than the so-called Christian you're responding to. In fact, I'd prefer being with anyone besides people like the so-called Christian above who uses religion for hate.
100% agree as a non-believer as well. I know some pretty wonderful Christians who actually do live by the teachings of Jesus. I wish those were the only kind of Christians. People obsessed with sin have deep seated psychological issues.
