Not much of a hippie vibe like TP but also not an overly preppy or Spring Valley vibe. Fairly normal upper middle class professionals. If you’re looking for hipster vibe, CCDC is far from it. It’s a total family vibe with lots of smart, interesting, thoughtful people IMHO. 
Ct ave is very convenient. Restaurant scene is good but had some turnover. Two new places Thai and American Tavern opening soon. Safeway isn’t great but it has the basics and Whole Foods is close by in Friendship Heights.
Can be extremely convenient with red line and getting out to beltway. 
Big issue/divide is the future of the library and community center. Debate on putting in affordable housing. 
Aesthetically, the streets and houses are very beautiful. There’s some chatter on making it a historic district b/c of some modern tear downs and threat of rezoning for multi units,  but not sure it will get any traction. 
The area has proven very resilient in housing market downturns like 20008, but seems super frothy now with little inventory. 
Overall, great place, nice people, extremely safe and good amenities.
