I can think of lots of legitimate reasons why someone may not have shoveled their sidewalk. I can't think of a single good reason why someone may leave their bike/e-bike/scooter on the sidewalk. Save your tsk-tsking for those *ssholes.
The only legit reason is that you are out of town. It's your responsibility and if you can't do it yourself, you must ask someone else to do it.
There is no must except since you are complaining, you are the one who MUST volunteer to help others. Lots of reasons why.
As a homeowner, you must clear your sidewalks or cause them to be cleared (i.e., ask/hire someone to do it). Yes, that’s what a law is.
As a good neighbor in all the time you are complaining you could get out there an help.
Of course that is the ideal, isn’t it? And that’s why my neighbor with cancer has clear sidewalks and I am happy to clear them. But this whole “there is no must” is just wrong. People need to know that others depend on them to clear their sidewalks so kids, people with limited mobility, parents pushing strollers, etc. can safely move through the neighborhood. Or does your idea of neighborliness only go so far?
