When American manufacturers  moved the production of goods to other countries (China, Mexico etc) a distinct portion of our population lost jobs. Those people often did not have college degrees. People could maintain a reasonable standard of living by working in manufacturing jobs in this country.

The promise of Nafta was that it would elevate those countries that took over production of goods thus making the world safer. Has it? We also were promised that the people in the heartland who lost their jobs would be reeducated and find better jobs. We all know that that didn't happen. Who makes up most of the Republican party now? Unfortunately they don't see how that party doesn't do anything to help them.

We abandoned those people and the data clearly shows how poorly that demographic group has faired. We are paying for it now and we are going to continue to pay for it.

We are doing nothing to make college more accessible - it's quite the opposite and the divide between the haves and the have nots grows. If you're in the former group don't rest easy because we are all going to pay for abandoning the latter.

For all of you railing about Temu, Amazon etc stop being silly and address the real issue here. It's unconscionable not to care about what we did to this country.
