The thing to know about Hohan is that he doesn't want to be a senator-- he wants to be president. He's only running for Senate because it's the current path available to him.

He won't become an independent be abuse he can't win a presidential race as an independent.

He won't actually denounce Trump or do anything to oppose him in the senate because he will need MAGA votes to win a presidential race. He'll refuse to ensure Trump because he knows a full-throated endorsement would torpedo him in MD but he won't cross the aisle to support Harris (the only plausible way to actually prevent a Trump presidency) because it could jeopardize his MAGA support when he runs for president in 2028.

Hogan is no different than people like JD Vance, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio-- he might find Trump personally distasteful but as a Republican he will never actually stand up to him because he both fears and needs Trump's base for his political aspirations. They are all a bunch of craven opportunists.

Alsobrooks is not perfect, no one is. But she actually wants to represent Maryland in the US Senate and her positions on key national issues (the Senate is a national politics role) are more in line with those of most Marylanders than Hogan or Trump, and another Dem in the debate makes it harder for them to push through their super-right-leaning anti-choice judicial candidates.[/quote]
