I really don't think he tried to get on the sample ballot--anyone with half a brain would know that wouldn't happen. Since he is, in fact, a dem, I think it's fine to signal the attendant alignment in values and priorities. Whatever the reasons he missed the caucus for the endorsement, it will probably doom his campaign and so I think it's unhelpful for this thread to dwell on it. What matters to me most as a voter is who will actually push back on the bizarrely inept leadership in Syphax. Whoever wins, I am praying for Board Members more like Kadera than the (IMO awful) Priddy and Diaz-torres. Does anyone here have a strong sense of who would have the spine to ever challenge Duran and his "Cabinet"?
Duran's contract is up this year, isn't it? If so, I don't see how he makes it. Everyone who was there when he first signed on is now gone. In moneyball terms, he has to be argue that he has value over the most likely replacement player, less the costs of a search. There's no way Turner votes to renew. Kadera is chair this year after fighting the status quo powers that be to keep it; a new superintendent is a great way to leave your mark. Sutton is an opportunist and will probably vote to renew his contract if she's convinced there's 3 votes against, that way she can play both sides, but if there's four votes against it she won't be the odd member out. So the question becomes whether at least one of the new board members will vote not to renew the contract. I think there is at better than 50% chance at least one of them goes this way. Clark has lots of experience with APS, she knows where the weaknesses are and she wants to fix them. Backing the existing leadership is what you do when you think the trajectory you're on is basically fine, and Clark doesn't seem to have those vibes. Zuraya has kissed a lot of rings to get where she is, so I can see her voting to renew. But she's also made comments on things like school technology that show she has a rather blunt and independent streak when she wants to. I could see her deciding that keeping Duran isn't worth it.
The SB already renewed his contract last year. They always renew it early.
I just looked this up and oh my gosh we’re stuck with him until 2027…
