My family is in Asheville area not Florida you moron. There were no evacuation orders until after the storm had already begun and even then it was only in the obvious flood areas. My family was expecting a lot of rain and were prepared for a week. This is going to go at least a month. Death toll will ultimately be hundreds if not thousands. Many like my family who survived the initial storm are trapped in their home with roads washed away and running low on food or water. I've seen more response from private organizations than federal. That's disheartening to hear that the feds aren't on the ground yet, please report back if you see them arrive. Thoughts and prayers to all of you in the recovery.
The feds will have the real power when they arrive. That area needs what the Army Corps of Engineers among others can deliver. No private organization is big enough to pay for those kinds of infrastructure repairs that will be needed. The feds will be instrumental in the long term recovery. Short term the private organizations are very important and can be nimble. They exist for a reason.
