This is basic:
The thing is, you can do it with any subculture. A kid hanging out in St.Marks Place in NYC will look plenty alternative against this crowd, but grab enough of them and you’ll see how only a few are truly original.
No you actually can't. Some groups really emphasize homogeneity and dressing and looking the same. But many do not. There are actually plenty of groups of women who do not all dress alike and who could never take a photo like this. It's not about being alternative. I have a friend who mostly wears comfy separates from LL Bean -- she is not "alternative" or "original" or "fashionable" and doesn't aspire to it. But she's not basic either. She does not dress to conform with an ideal put forth by influencers or enforced via dress codes on girls weekends or at bachelorette parties. She just wears what she wants. I also have some friends who are very into fashion but they don't all dress the same -- the dress differently from each other and none of them would ever wear head to toe trends like this. Being basic involves believing that there is a "right" way to dress and that you need to fall in line with certain trends. "We're all wearing infinity scarves" or "we're over skinny jeans -- now we all wear high waisted flares." It's just "on Wednesdays we wear pink" but for adults and done with no sense of irony or an understanding of how dumb it is. Basic.
