Duke is not expanding the cohort from the carolinas, they are just trying to make it easier and more common for those with need from the carolinas to apply. They will be MORE in line with Yale as they will have a higher % of aided kids compared to previously. The group that will be pinched are the full-pay carolinas applicants who do not ED. There will be less carolinas "spots" available given the huge surge in ED of this geographic group because of the new rules: private school counselors of fullpay kids in the carolinas have gotten the unspoken memo from this past cycle: Duke RD is not a backup to ivies, if you want it you'd better ED, full pay or not, unless you are truly a cream of the crop RD applicant. Duke RD from the carolinas used to be slightly easier than RD from other regions: no longer, now it will be harder. [/quote]
