Op isn't going to get someone kicked off the plane because they have a pit bull. They just aren't. So options that you may have if you find yourself in a similar situation would be to see if you can move seats away from the pitbull or choose to deplane and get on a different flight. The dog was so quiet that OP didn't even know it was there. Hard to insist that a well behaved dog be kicked off the plane because of what may or may not occur. Btw, I was bit unprovoked by a dog when I was a kid so I'm not a huge dog apologist. There are bad dogs and there are bad dog owners (though 99% of the time a dog is bad because of bad owners).
Where did I say I wanted the dog kicked off? I simply had no idea irresponsible dog owners would bring a violent dog inside an enclosed tube with no escape and want a mental toolkit in case one snaps on a later flight.
But the dog....wasn't violent. In fact, it was so well behaved you didn't even know it was there. And you asked what about the future. And that's your answer. You either ask to move seats away from dog or you remove yourself from the plane.
