There's no need to get upset, folks. I really appreciate the advice and the small lesson. Now let me get the cutesy stuff started... so excited! Thanks a bunch!
OP here. I'm really pleased to hear from everybody. And even happier to see that just by throwing this small get together we'll be able to weed out people like some of the PP's. I would hate to have to cut people off once it's too late and come to realize we've wasted our time.
Oh, if I received your fancy printed invite for what is essentially a large playdate, we would happily attend and be polite and all... I'd even ask what I could bring to contribute. But inside, I'd peg you as one of "those" moms who is trying too hard or has too much free time on her hands. I LOVE all the fancy papers and such for parties, but this situation screams for an evite or a photocopied flyer (maybe even with clipart and fancy fonts) dropped off in cubbies or posted on the daycare message board, not hand crafted invites.
OP here. Now let me tell you a secret... Those invites I posted are already made stuff that I just have to type the info. The fonts, everything is already there, I just change the date on it and the name of the event. It's much easier and faster to just do that and hit "print" and make 12 of those (6 pages of paper) and cut in the middle than start from scratch and try to make up the flyers you're suggesting and photocopy them. BTW our school does drop off/pick up in a line that's why we don't have a community board, the kids don't have cubbies so I would send the invitations to the teacher and she'll hand them to the parents as she straps the kids in their carseats.
