OP here- thank you. This is all helpful.  I know that a lot of people accuse schools like Wash U, Tufts, and Emory of "yield protection" but my sense is that they really want students who want to be there.  Back in the day, I remember visiting Tufts and feeling like none of the students had really wanted to go to Tufts but rather had "settled." That is not at all the sense that we got when visiting this time.  Same with Wash U...[/quote]
