Not to toot my own horn, but yes I’m very attractive. Men will come up to us while we’re sitting together, walking  holding hands, etc., and will hit on me but I wouldn’t say that I’m more attractive than him per se. He’s very short though, about 5’4/5’5. He’s the first man I’ve ever dated under six foot but I wanted to open up my dating pool and not be so physically picky years ago. [/quote]

So you’re very attractive, had a better career and made more money than him (before getting laid off), and he’s a very short man? So he’s a little man with napoleon complex can’t stand that you excel better than him in life, from career to looks, and he knows this. He knows how desired you are most people that interact with you, so he needs to knock you down a few pegs because you’re too good for him. He knows that if you felt more secure about yourself you’d leave him, so to ensure that you don’t and to prop himself up he has to make you feel insecure because he’s an insecure little man himself.
