If there are children then the court wants to make sure their standard of leaving is maintained. I think you are asking about those women for example married to very wealthy men and who had no kids in the marriage and then get huge alimony if they file for divorce. If you are referring to the latter I don't know the reasoning behind it to be honest. My wife told me that the new lady who moved in next door to us is unemployed has no kids and is recently divorced. Rumors are that she was married to a very wealthy guy. [/quote]
