Couldn’t care less. My DD is taking 4 AP’s but only one test. Literally don’t care how she does. She’s heading to college in the fall so the score matters not at this point.
It matters if the college allows the kid to skip an intro class if they get a good score on the exam. My senior cancelled all his AP exams except those.
My kid gets an F in the class if they don’t take the AP test. Your school lets them skip the actual AP test?
We’re at a non-NOVA large public HS. Technically, the exams are “optional” but taking the AP Exam usually gets one exempted from the teacher’s final which, rumor has it, is invariably more difficult than the AP. Our sophomore is taking first AP tomorrow. Has studied outside of class. Needs a 3+ to get the DE credit needed for their program. Luckily, there are alternatives if that doesn’t work out but that hasn’t changed the “stress” level.
Our school is similar— you take the AP or the teacher’s final. However, our school pays for the AP exam and needs to recommend you to take it. If they don’t recommend you, you can pay to take it. Not sure if a kid in this situation also has to take the final. Our school also gives kids a preliminary final grade in June and adjusts it later to reflect their AP score.
Interesting. I’m the AP-test-optional PP. Our kids’ grades are final and are not influenced by the AP score. One of the good things about DCUM is that it’s informative to know how different practices work (or don’t) in diffident locations. As we’re not in NOVA, I long ago learned it was best to not assume everyone just did it the same way. (And thank goodness, I say. Some DCUM-land policies, both public and private, are 😳 )
