Our rec basketball all stars is just one extra game for fun. No big deal.
Yep this is what our league does. My child’s coach last year had the players vote on who should play in the game. I thought that was really cool
That would be great if all star soccer built their teams like that. Teams getting an equal number of players that their teammates voted in would remove the doubt and bs. It would also result in better stronger teams.
Letting coaches select the team is a perq of the job. It is a lot of work and hassle for a volunteer. Usually coaches want to select a good team. Frankly, there's not much difference between most decent rec players. If he selects his kid's friend over your kid, there is probably very little actual difference in skill.
I’m the PP who posted about the basketball coach letting the players vote. This coach had a younger kid who was on my kid’s team, and a much older kid who had already been through years of rec and travel bball. He had the perspective and wisdom that comes with being able to look back on those years of youth sports, and was coaching for all the right reasons. I am 99% sure his own kid did not play in the all star game. I wish we had more parents like this. It’s a sport for the kids. Parents seem to forget this.
+ 100! This is sports for children. Not a perk for some sniveling slimy coach putting their kids for hard working talented kids.
