No it does not. I have lived and traveled throughout Europe. America is the most racist and toxic place I have lived. Sadly my family is here.
I find it hard to believe that you have done more than a "see 7 countries in 12 days" tour of Western Europe if this is the case.
+1 Maybe during the fly by countries tour the PP forgot to take a real look at how Anti Semitism is on the rise in countries like France And how the Brits treat Pakistani immigrants and Indian heritage nationals. It’s a lot subtler there. At least until you give ‘em a few pints and then it all comes out.
Huh, I would describe it the opposite -- racism in Europe is much more overt than in the US, especially in the professional class. I have heard people say things in workplaces and or social functions there that you wouldn't even hear among conservatives in the US, because people here are much more sensitive to being accused of being racist. In Europe, racist attitudes are much more tolerated (it's kind of like being the US in the 60s or 70s -- people will speak out against it but also there is an attitude of "whatever that's just what people of that generation or from that part of the country think." There is less political correctness there. The anti-semitism is also quite blatant and many people who express it don't even view it as anti-semitism. In France, for instance, I have encountered people who will argue with you that these comments are even offensive because, according to them, the stereotypes are true so they are just pointing out the truth. Similar attitudes toward African and MidEast immigrants. Also European politics don't break across the same right-left spectrum as in the US. You have people in Europe who are very in favor of social programs and the high taxes that enable them, but are extremely anti-immigrant (especially against African and MidEast immigrants) because they view these immigrants as being a threat to those benefits for white Europeans. In the US a lot of racist feelings and opinions are suppressed because people are very bothered by the idea of being accused of racism here. So often racism comes out in passive aggressive ways, or it can be hard to tell if someone is actually racist because they say all the "right" things. Americans also put more stock in politeness and being friendly than Europeans do, so they will couch their racist opinions to try and soften them, whereas someone from Italy or Belgium will just say "well yes everyone agrees Egyptians are smarter and harder working than Somalians" like they are talking about the weather.
