I agree. We are very seriously considering SUNY Purchase College as an OOS option for our artsy liberal arts student.  SUNY schools have a lot to offer and are a great deal financially.[/quote]

They're not really interchangeable.  Purchase is great for arts. So many famous alumni. Stony Brook is science.  Bing is most selective.  ESF for environmental.  Geneseo and Buffalo also great, but different vibe. It's a unique construct for a system [/quote]

+1. That's the biggest difference between the SUNY system and most other state university systems. [b]They don't have a "flagship"[/b] but lots of smaller, focused schools.

That's true, they actually have two: Buffalo and Stony Brook. Not that it's that important.
