Social work has a limited scope of practice in my field. I work in a niche field combining social work, nursing, and regulatory compliance. I supervise a team of social workers who investigate regulatory compliance and complaints in group homes for developmentally disabled residents.

There are nurses hired by the agency I work for to do nursing home surveys and complaint investigations. The nursing positions pay significantly more and are more interesting because they use their clinical knowledge to look at nursing home deficiencies.

I wanted to have that knowledge and skillset. There are also positions in my agency for nursing care consultants, and nurse case managers, and I wanted to expand my clinical knowledge so I can support not only the psychosocial but provide clinical support to people in the community.

So, long story short I had to drop the course. I was assigned a work project to onboard new staff in person over the next two weeks. I would have missed the next two labs, so I had to choose between work and school. I chose work and already am feeling better about it. I will revisit the nursing program when I have more support in terms of childcare so I can study. I am looking at afterschool programs in September for my son once he starts Kindergarten.

Overall I did get very good advice from this thread and do appreciate the bird eye view from DCUM.[/quote]
