The road clearing infrastructure is better up north and they’re more skilled at snow removal - no plowing snow into the center turn lane which I’ve definitely seen in the past here. However, plowing of parking lots and shoveling/salting of sidewalks can still leave something to be desired, even in a place that gets a lot of snow. Also there’s a lot less risk tolerance than there was in the 80s and 90s when we were growing up and yes, their schools close or delay more often as well. But no, in Ohio/Michigan/etc. they would not be cancelling prime HS basketball games for this amount of snow a whole day in advance. Condition of the parking lots be dammed. lol.
This is true. -Northern Ohio Native that grew up with lots of lake effect snow.
I'm also a northern Ohio native and still have family in the area. They've closed twice this week for the cold, have had less snow than us, nothing has been closed for snow. Kids basketball would NEVER be closed for snow, they plow the roads there.
