As a former host, I felt incredibly embarrassed and disclosed that to my friends. But I felt obliged to host for the rep, so I did it. (Long story). I just assumed those who didn't want to come wouldn't, and those who did knew what was going on and could afford to throw $100 at the cause. I was pretty up front with them that I felt that way (rep didn't altogether get that, because she is deep into this S&D thing) and I made it clear that the gesture on my end to host was the end goal, and they weren't expected to buy anything. Of course they did. Awkward! Anyway, it was incredibly ridiculous how cheesy the marketing tools were. I was sent a video to watch, told to use an invitation template that every woman in her right mind would know is not appealing to "friends." I had postcards to send (didn't), and my rep pushed me to contact attendees to buy stuff after the party. I didn't follow any of these rules, which I didn't feel so bad about because she sold enough anyway. S&D pitches themselves as empowering women but after getting a look at their materials and communiques and buzzwords, they seem to really dumb us down. It's just all so fake and silly. In short, I don't use the term "GIRLS NIGHT!" and I'm not an "every girrrrrrl needs wine and chocolate to get away from the kids!!!" kind of woman. But I am quite trendy and young and a mom who can afford this stuff, so I am who they're targeting. It makes no sense to me. I don't begrudge the pyramid scheme so much - we all know that's what it is, right? - but I wish they'd figure something else out like getting people to sell online or via d-lists. No one wants a party. And their parties make me not want to buy their stuff, which again, is alright. Just alright.
