Does it matter if it’s happened? They are protesting the policy. Kids at my child’s VA middle school had a walk out to protest the “don’t say gay” law in Florida. They were protesting a law/policy, not an event, snd it was in another state. But my son, at his arlington middle school, saw “non-binary” females use boys bathroom. You know, bathrooms where boys stand and pee in a urinal without a door. Not hypothetical. The kids would say “oh, I just use the boys bathroom.” My son tried to use the bathroom at off times & always go in a stall. What middle school boy wants a female to see him peeing? I think private individual places for transgender kids to use the bathroom & change are safest and most comfortable for everyone. Ideally, everyone would have this option.
It does when their arguments suggest actual experiences that have made them feel "uncomfortable." If they haven't actually had those experiences, their advocacy comes off as just protesting to take a stand, stir things up, get attention, something to write about in their college essays because they don't have anything else to write about, etc. It becomes a much less genuine protest.
Oh, so more similar to the Arlington kids both misrepresenting and protesting a law in a state hundreds of miles away, that has no direct impact on their lives? At least this was relevant to a policy in their own state. I think walk outs, for anything, are basically a waste of time, but if people are going to cheer on one type of protest, be consistent. It shouldn’t matter if you agree with the kids or not.
