Hard to define "unsafe". Someone getting their head cut off at Virginia Tech, and the mass shooting, guess it doesn't matter.
That’s ancient history. Whereas, as of last night there’s an active shooter at large in Maine, near Bowdoin College. Mentally illness can happen anywhere. A guy shot dead 22 people at a bowling alley, a bar and Walmart distribution center.
The shootings in Lewiston, Maine (home of Bates College), occurred at two locations, not three. The bowling alley is just north of Bates College's campus; the pool hall/bar is just south of the Bates College campus. Bates College is right in the middle of both shooting locations. Lewiston, Maine is not a nice city. Violent crime has been rising steadily over the past 5 years in Lewiston, Maine. Lewiston is the second largest city in Maine (about 38,000 residents) and is the second most dangerous city in Maine for violent crime.
See, as someone who grew up in DC before heading south, I would have NEVER expected that much violent crime in Maine. Call me naive, but I bet a lot of parents would be surprised as well.
