We are planning our retirement for the worst case scenario.[/quote] Look, my ILs financially planned on an arrangement that my MiL has now found untenable: her ILs moved into a 1 BR apartment in an assisted living unit and paid for 24/7 care when her FiL was in full dementia. The couple slept in the same room and the aide sat in the LR at night, but an aide was always there. DH's dad now has dementia and his mom will not agree to this arrangement. Frankly I don't blame her. For now it is working as they have been able to remain in their home with an aide during the weekdays and occasionally on the weekend. But if they are no longer able to remain at home, they do not have the money over the long term to pay for an apartment for her and memory care for him.[/quote]
