Does anyone actually want an elementary school at Blake Lane? It was very very opposed by the community.
The specific location was opposed by some in the community, and supported by others, but what you’re missing is that the money is now gone for good and it will be many decades before the Fairfax/Oakton area has the opportunity to reduce the enrollment at Mosaic (over 960 kids) or Providence (875 kids) again. Meanwhile a new school will get built at Dunn Loring, where it isn’t needed, in an area where the nearby schools are below capacity and some only have 400 or fewer kids. Only an idiot and a buffoon like Frisch could have come up with such a stupid idea, and only a school board composed entirely of members from the same political party could have failed to stop it. Shame on the entire school board for wasting taxpayer money.
Yep and this will be a huge mess. The AT&T site at Chain Bridge and Jermantown may be getting up to a 1000 housing units, not sure if these would be sent to Oakton or Mosaic. They are looking to replace office building with apartments on Arrowwood near OakMar, those fed would go to Providence at the moment. There is proposals for townhouses and apartments along Eaton Place on the City of Fairfax/ Fairfax County line that will feed to Providence these would be city kids so they must go to a City of Fairfax school. This could lead to the Fairfax Village and Oakton Park needing to be moved from Providence to Oakton perhaps. Fairfax City also has all the new Housing at Boulevard VI going to Providence, hasn't been a big impact yet, but I suspect the early buyers of the towns who may have not had kids yet or school age kids may just stay due to low interest rates and lack of SFH to move up to. Major mess and the funding switch was rammed though right before the Holidays in 2021. I know their was a virtual public meeting for Oakton, Mosaic and Providence parents, but there wasn't much notice and it was like maybe the Tuesday or Thursday before the Holiday break. I'm no Republican I just care about the City of Fairfax and our close county neighbors and friends. I lived off Blake before moving to the City of Fairfax. I can't even vote for or against Frisch. I think he was a terrible board member and should lose, the other candidate doesn't sound great. Maybe somebody could get a decent write in candidate.
