Did not know this. Thanks for posting, OP. For those of you that are too lazy (or stubborn) to click on the link, Trump says the following: "The deteriorative condition within Venezuela, which presents an ongoing national security threat to the safety and well-being of the American people, warrants the deferral of the removal of Venezuelan nationals who are present in the United States. Pursuant to my constitutional authority to conduct the foreign relations of the United States, I have determined that it is in the foreign policy interest of the United States to defer the removal of any national of Venezuela, or alien without nationality who last habitually resided in Venezuela, subject to the conditions and exceptions provided below. So if Trump thought it was in the foreign policy interest of the US to protect Venezuelans back in January of 2021 when he signed this memorandum--due to this argument: "Through force and fraud, the Maduro regime is responsible for the worst humanitarian crisis in the Western Hemisphere in recent memory. "A catastrophic economic crisis and shortages of basic goods and medicine have forced about five million Venezuelans to flee the country, often under dangerous conditions."--then surely the conditions described in the memorandum, which are even worse now than in 2021, justify the continued protection of Venezuelan migrants. Any questions resident Trump supporters?
I am not a Trump supporter. The EO listed above is vastly different from a TPS grant. It is a stay of removal. Both are legal terms of art which grant varying degrees of benefit. Trump was essentially forced to stay removal because we can’t remove individuals to countries that we have no diplomatic ties with. It becomes very difficult. So he just pushed pause on court decisions TPS grants status and work authorization for 18 months to be extended what could be indefinitely. It was also registered for those physically present thru 08/23, after the summers huge migrant waves. This act incentives the caravan crossings both past and present, while Trump only paused removal for VZ nationals already in US. I hate Trump but his action was nowhere near the same.
1. Please actually click on the link and read the promises, which included employment. 1. Trump wasn't forced to do anything. He signed this a few days before leaving office.
