In the case of the designation of El Salvador as a TPS country, the grant has lasted 20+ years. It was initially granted in 2001. So that's not "temporary". Plus, the likelihood of returning home once you have entered the US is incredibly low - less then 10% (and that is high). The TPS designation for Venezuela (and so soon) has been a terrible idea.
