Obviously through early evaluation or cpse. They diagnosis need for services from the standpoint of capability to access the school curriculum. They do not diagnose disorders.

TBH, going to a childless therapist in their mid-30s with no experience/specialization in these issues doesn't seem very helpful. Telling me to "have more patience" will make me want to chuck my iPad out the window.

I think PCIT is designed for this. Basically you play with your kid while wearing an earpiece and you get coached through how to communicate with them by a therapist who is watching and talking you through it. I think you can also do sessions where instead of playing with your kid you do a part of your routine that is hard, like getting ready for school or going to bed or whatever.[/quote]
