I think I know why. Because the OP said they were interested in buying in MoCo, and then listed as the only possible options the four highest income, whitest high schools. If you think about it from the perspective of those of us who live near the 21 other high schools in the county, it is pretty easy to get offended that people are only looking at those four because they "want what's best for their child." Clearly that is what we all want, and it's silly to claim that is only possible at those four schools.
Seriously, re-read your post. Your defensiveness and sense of umbrage is totally misplaced. The OP never claimed it was "only possible" to do "what's best for their child" at these 4 schools. She simply is interested in sending HER child to one of these schools, and wanted feedback. If you genuinely feel it is justified to be offended because someone has a different school preference, then I assume you are offended by the tens of thousands of people who already live in the Whitman, Churchill, etc, neighborhoods? As well as by the thousands who send their kids to private schools or charter schools or any other school besides your own. Repeat after me: in America, individuals have the right to decide where they want to live and where they want to send their children to school. You cannot dictate your preferences for everyone else, and declaring that anyone who has different preferences from you is wrong and bad (racist, elitist, etc) is pretty much the opposite of the "diversity" you're touting. And this is coming from a lefty who has kids at a different MoCo school than the OP inquired about, btw.
I think OP deserves that backlash she is getting -- not from the original question -- but from her negative comments regarding Silver Spring/Langley Park and DCC high schools. I think it can be fairly said that all/most parents want what is "best" for their children but she stepped in big pile of poop when she equated/defined "best" (for her children) as Bethesda/Whitman/Churchill, etc. But it seems to me that she eventually got the information she seemed to be looking for -- so maybe the backlash was worthwhile and this thread can rest in peace.
