I was ostracized in the 80s for not having brand name clothes (Izod and Polo shirts, Lee and Levi jeans, etc). I was wearing crap from Goodwill. I didn't even have socks or underwear. My mother, bitter about the divorce she initiated and the crash in lifestyle that came with us, was always going on about how destitute we were.
