I think reviewing math in the summer to fill in gaps is great, but bumping one letter grade in geometry isn't where it's at. Focus more on preparing for algebra 2, precalc, and AP calc. And if the kid is cheating instead of studying, what needs fixing is the attitude.
I highly doubt her kid was cheating if he was getting a B to begin with. She left that little detail out in her original post. In fact in her original post she claimed her kid "failed" the first time. She thinks a B is failing.... They were probably socializing...because they were bored in the first place with material THEY ALREADY UNDERSTOOD THE FIRST TIME AROUND. This lady sounds completely unhinged.
Those were two different people. Why respond if you aren’t going to bother reading the posts? Agree the B student shouldnt be retaking the class. OP’s son failed math and was placed in in-person summer school. In person classes this year are only open to those who failed, due to budget cuts. It’s zoom school for everyone else. Otherwise how could he spend the class talking to others? That’s not happening in the CHS zoom sessions. OP, I think you need a tutor. Summer school doesn’t sound like it’s helping him.
OP's kid is in Zoom school, therefore, they didn't fail. Why can't you bother to read posts?
Let me get this straight - you read OP's post (that I have reposted below), and what you took from this is (1) OP's kid is retaking after getting a B and (2) the kid is in online school? That is some impressive reading skill ya got there ... -- DP
So one of my kids is in summer school because they failed a math class. Today was the first day. Came home and said, I did all the work in the chromebook and don't have to go back until July 11. Um, what? They said the teacher taught for the first ten minutes then they opened their chromebooks and did the units online. Showed me their awesome scores on all the units -- 80%, 100%, 85%. Strange since they were there because they had failed the class. I said, how is it that you understand enough to work ahead like that? If you understand all that, why did you FAIL in the first place? Shrugs, then says they'd be ahead another day if they hadn't spent so much time talking to the other kids in the class. Wait, so you all have chromebooks open to do work and are allowed to talk to each other? HELLO -- THEY ARE CHEATING!!!! Some kid was probably googling all the questions and passing the answers around. I CANNOT BELIEVE this is what MCPS is offering students who are doing poorly. These are kids who need to be shown that spark, to want to learn -- who NEED TO BE TAUGHT BY A REAL TEACHER, one who gives a crap. Why doesn't MCPS just let them do the work online at home if that's what passes for teaching in summer school? I am so so so disappointed. I thought summer school would make a difference. My child is not learning a damn thing in MCPS and doesn't care at all about learning. What a joke MCPS has become.

Don't be an asshat. That PP may have been responding to the wrong thread or something. It happens, they don't need a character assassination as a result, just ignore it and move on.
