In the western states, where fires are more common, schools and sports organizations have policies about rescheduling recess, games, and practices at certain AQI thresholds. I used to live in Hong Kong 20 years ago, same story. If/when fires start to affect the east coast more, expect your k-12 schools, youth sports organizations, and universities to follow suit.
