DS is thinking about applying to Stanford REA. We know it’s a long shot as an unhooked candidate (full-pay white male from W school), but it’s excellent for CS and he’s allured by the laid back CA culture and weather. Anyone have a recent grad?
Don't throw away REA or ED applications on moonshots. Suburban white and asian kids need to be strategic - doubly so when it comes to CS. A quick glance at moco360 shows that in 2022, 36 kids applied from Whitman. 1 got in. 22 kids applied from Walter Johnson. 0 got in. Be realistic. Tell your son to look elsewhere. And it's been a long time since Stanford was laid back
+1 It’s not worth the gamble if the kid has other more realistic ED schools they like.
Like Northwestern. Don’t bother if unhooked. Waste of the application fee
